Did You Know?

This mug is from the Imperial War Museum, visited many times by Suse Crosby during the years of research for the play. In the play they mention the Army recruiters are on the lookout for men with “strong teeth” – the reason they did that is because it would be an instant sign of malnutrition. In fact many men who tried to sign up were turned away because they were malnourished, which ended up as a shocking survey of ordinary people in Britain, which the Government at the time then took steps after the War to address.

Suse believes in attention to all these details in honouring those who lived at the time – and so do we.
